Security System Overhaul
In 2023, The Liberty completed a major upgrade to its security infrastructure, significantly strengthening safety standards across the entire estate.
The works included:
- Installation of over 150 new high-definition security cameras
- More than 30 access-controlled doors to protect service areas and back-of-house spaces
- A fully refurbished security control room, upgraded with modern fibre technology

One of the centre’s most transformative upgrades has been the introduction of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology in the car park. The Liberty is now home to Romford’s only ANPR-enabled parking system, offering a truly frictionless parking experience.
Key benefits include:
- Pay-on-exit and cashless payment options
- No need to queue at pay machines
- Faster entry and exit, reducing congestion
- Convenient account-based parking for regular users
The system has already proven hugely popular, with over 3,500 customers signing up within its first year. By removing traditional parking frustrations, the ANPR system makes visiting The Liberty easier, quicker, and more convenient for everyone.
